WELCHES BILD ENTWERFEN JUNGE FOTOGRAF:INNEN VON DER WELT?

Insgesamt 14 Fotobücher von Studierenden aus Hannover und Dortmund zeigen ihre
persönliche Perspektive auf unsere Gegenwart. Die thematische Vielfalt spiegelt sich auch in
den unterschiedlichen Herangehensweisen an das Medium Buch – mal werden die Fotografien
in Form von Tagebüchern im Wechsel mit Schrift zu einer Erzählung verwoben, mal spricht die
Abfolge der einzelnen Bilder für sich. Viele der ausgestellten Bücher sind Unikate mit
unterschiedlichen Formaten und Formen, oftmals sind beigefügte Notizen, historisches
Bildmaterial oder haptische Elemente in die Erzählung eingebunden. Die Bücher geben sehr
persönliche Einblicke in andere Kulturräume sowie alltägliche Lebenswelten – die
Auseinandersetzung mit Herkunft und Zugehörigkeit spielt zudem oft eine zentrale Rolle.

Die Präsentation ist in umfangreicherer Form unter dem Titel FIRST PAGES innerhalb der
Ausstellungsreihe COUNTER IMAGES GEGENBILDER (10. Feb–11. Jun 2023) im Rautenstrauch-
Joest-Museum in Köln gezeigt worden. Sie ist in Kollaboration mit den Hochschulen Hannover
und Dortmund entstanden und zeigte Arbeiten, die zwischen 2018 und 2022 im Rahmen der
nationalen und internationalen Fotobuchklassen unter Leitung von Thekla Ehling, Frederic
Lezmi und Paul Spehr entstanden sind.

WHAT IMAGE DO YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHERS CREATE OF THE WORLD?

A total of 14 photo books by students from Hanover and Dortmund show their personal
perspectives on our present times. Thematic diversity is reflected in the different approaches to
the medium of the book – sometimes the photographs are woven into a narrative in the form of
diaries alternating with text, sometimes the sequence of individual images speaks for itself.
Many of the books on display are unique pieces with different formats and shapes, often with
attached notes, historical visual material or haptic elements integrated into the narrative. The
books provide very personal insights into other cultural areas and everyday life – the
examination of origin and belonging often plays a central role.

The presentation has been shown in a more extensive form under the title FIRST PAGES within
the exhibition series COUNTER IMAGES GEGENBILDER (10 Feb–11 Jun 2023) at the
Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne. It was created in collaboration with the universities of
Hanover and Dortmund and showed works created between 2018 and 2022 as part of the
national and international photo book classes led by Thekla Ehling, Frederic Lezmi and Paul
Spehr.
